By Angela Young

Avid, especially competitive, runners can experience a number of foot problems. Even beginning and sometimes runner can experience some of the most common foot problems.

The most common foot problems for runners include:

  • Blisters
  • Sprains
  • Plantar Fascititis
  • Stress Fractures
  • Tendonitis

All of these conditions can be treated if you're watching for foot problems and use an appropriate solution.

Plantar Fascititis

This condition is usually first noticed by pain in the heel. The result is pain and inflammation and is caused by too much stress on your foot. You can find custom insoles or better shoes to help avoid this. The pain is also common when getting back to a running schedule after a long period of time and will relieve itself after awhile.

Achilles Tendonitis

This caused extreme pain in the calf and heel which continues to get worse with running often causing you to slow to a walk. The pain may be worse on hills and stairs. This is also a beginning running problem that can get better over time, but you should not try to push through it as you can cause injury to the tendons. Instead easy into a running routine allowing your tendons to acculumate to your new schedule. You can also use a bit longer to warm up with a walk.

Relief Products

There are some products out there that can help dull the pain. These are usually topical products, but you should ask other runners what they use. If you're experiencing inflammation an ibuprofen based product cna help reduce swelling.

Foot problem solutions for runners can be customized to your specific problem. If you notice a condition that last for a bit longer than expected or appears to be getting worse, talk with your doctor to check for injury.
