Tricks to lose those last 5 lbs

The more weight you lose the harder it is to get off. You may have started your weight loss journey and found it was easy to hit a high calorie burn, but now that you only have five pounds to go- they're nearly impossible to lose. You can use some simple tips and tricks to shedding those last pesky pounds.

Stick with Your Diet

You may feel like you need to change up your diet or feel yourself slipping into old habits now that you're closer to your goal. Instead make sure you're making smart choices for everything you put in your mouth, counting your calories and sticking to your calorie goal. If you workout less, you need to consume less. 

Keep Track

With many programs your calories burned and calories in can be calculated for you depending on your personal information and goals. Make sure you continuously make sure you're stick with all your counting and measurements. One pound equal about 3,500 calories. This is an easy way to set a goal for how many calories in and calories burned you're going to do each week to shed those last five.

Like Clockwork

It's important to eat at set times of the day to ensure your body doesn't go into starvation mode and to ensure it has time to process your last meal. One key is to wake up early and eat a large breakfast. Ideally, you want breakfast to be your biggest meal of the day, going down in calories, fat, sugar and sodium throughout the day with subsequent meals.

Add Strength Training

If you have been already, you need to add strength training to your workout routine. While cardio burns the most calories, weights burns fat from the inside out. Fat sits on top of the muscle and when muscles are worked they burn the fat over the top of them. Starting your workout (or day) with weights will boost your metabolism and help you burn more calories throughout the rest of your workout and day.

Change it Up

Whenever you hit a plateau it's time to change up your exercise routine. Your muscles get bored and once they are not longer being challenged you stop gaining muscle and your fat burning slows as you lose less calories. Change your workout up to kick your fat burning back into gear.

Don't Stress

While stress causes Cortisol to be released in the system which is a hormone that affects the fat around our mid-sections, it also makes us feel terrible about ourselves. With any weight loss routine you need to keep perspective and love the effort and accomplishment as much as the results.

Leptin Change Up

Leptin is a chemical in your body that slows the metabolism as it decreases. To keep your Leptin levels high through in a high calorie day once a week to reset and rev your metabolism. This doesn't mean go crazy with high calorie foods, but you can replace some of your low calorie vegetable choices with complex carbs like fruit which offer a slightly higher calorie count while still providing the nurtrients you need.

You can lose those last five pounds with a few simple changes and a little more dedication. Losing weight and living a healthy life isn't about a quick loss diet or miracle cure. It's a way of life and the more you experience an active, healthy lifestyle the more activities and foods you'll learn to enjoy. With these new foods, activies and changes you know exactly what to do to shed the dreaded five.
