A comprehensive list of prescription and over the counter medications.
Ranexa is a drug used to treat angina. It helps improve blood flow so the heart can work more efficiently. It is highly versatile for use with other medications. This extended-release tab can be taken with or without food and is safe for use while pregnant and breastfeeding. It should be taken the same way (with or without food), at the same time each day.
Do not take Ranexa if you have cirrhosis of the liver. Before starting Ranexa talk with your doctor and pharmacist about other medications you’re taking. This is an extended-release tab, do not crush, chew or break it. This can cause too much of the medication to be released at once.
Potentially dangerous effects can occur when Ranexa interacts with grapefruit or grapefruit juice. Speak with your doctor about the use of grapefruit products.
Ranexa is used in the treatment of chronic angina (chest pain). It is not for use to treat an acute situation, like a heart attack. It can be used with beta blockers, ACE inhibitors, lipid-lowering therapy, anti-platelet therapy, calcium channel blockers, nitrates, and angiotensin receptor blockers.
Ranexa can impair your thinking or reactions. Avoid activities where you are required to be alert. Other side effects include swelling in hands, feet, or ankles, irregular heartbeat, tremors, decrease in urination, shortness of breath, weakness, blood in your urine, or ringing in your ears.
This medication is compatible with many other medications used to treat heart conditions; it can have adverse effects when mixed with some medications. There are a total of 606 drugs that are known to react with this drug. Of them 148 are considered major drug interactions. Some of these drugs include a variety of anti-biotic, aspirin, Cordarone, Carbatrol, Haldol, Lexapro and many others.
This drug can also have major adverse reactions when taken with antipsychotics.
In the event of an overdose, you may experience nausea, vomiting, tingling or numbness, dizziness, blurred vision, fainting, or confusion. If you experience any or some of these symptoms, contact Poison Control immediately for emergency medical attention.
