The latest craze in the marijuana industry is the extraction of cannabidiol from cannabis. Although marijuana might get a bad rap, people may be more open to this all-natural component and the health benefits they may receive from it. The question is, what is the stuff? Does it work? And is it safe to use?
What is Cannabidiol, or CBD? The main source of cannabidiol is derived from nature in the hemp plant, a botanical cousin to marijuana. It’s a compound of cannabis that provides a number of medical benefits without having the effects of feeling “high.” Cannabis rich in CBD is non-psychoactive, or at the very least, much less psychoactive than the THC component of cannabis. This means users would not feel some of the effects of smoking marijuana, such as lethargy, or feeling “stoned.” Many users drop it under their tongue in the form of an oil, which is also more appealing for people who don’t want to smoke marijuana to receive the health benefits.
This factor makes cannabidiol attractive to patients who need relief from symptoms such as seizures, inflammation, anxiety, psychosis, seizures, muscle spasms, and other issues, which can be helped through the use of marijuana. So does it work? There has been both scientific, clinical, and government-sponsored research done on the potential of cannabidiol helping to treat diabetes, alcoholism, multiple sclerosis, chronic pain, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, epilepsy, and schizophrenia. It has been determined that it is safe and has the potential to be effective, but research is still needed on it’s ability to treat certain aspects of cancer. Overall, it has a relaxing impact on the brain and can help to dull these symptoms and issues. Users explain they experience happiness and relaxation, improved mood, and pain reduction.
Although the legality of the compound is a bit of a gray area among the 50 states, the use of it is generally safe. Since it is derived from a plant, it is all natural and is reported as safe even in high doses. The only thing to check on would be if a user were to use cannabidiol along with a prescription drug. Users would need to check with their doctor about their specific medicine regimen.
So next time you are feeling anxious, or feeling one of the symptoms listed above, you might want to talk to your doctor or holistic health coach regarding this calming component of cannabis.
