Either you are a Denver local, or you are traveling to the state for some legal pot-smoking, or-um, awesome skiing. Whatever brings you to Denver, the struggle is real. What exactly are you or your peers smoking? If you are trying it for the first time, how will it effect you? There are many questions about the new craze going on in Colorado, but recent studies have revealed a few answers about potency and ingredients.
Lab tests have recently revealed that the marijuana in Colorado is almost twice as potent as the illegal versions of previous decades. Modern cannabis is almost triple as potent as years past. Wow!
In previous years when marijuana was illegal, levels of THC was below 10 percent. THC is the chemical in weed that makes you high, if you didn’t know. Now, TCH levels are averaging 18.7 percent or even 30 percent in retail stores. Definitely something to think about if you are new to the smoking scene. What’s even more frightening, is the fact that the Denver lab results also showed that weed was more contaminated than ever, and contained little medical value.
President of Charas Scientific, Andy LaFrate stated, “There is some really dirty weed out there.” Up to 1 million fungal spores were crawling all over the green buds and marijuana flowers that were studied. Of course, the green is well…green. It’s a natural product from the earth and it can be expected that it may contain natural substances. However, in other tests a chemical solvent called butane was found in the reefer, which is more alarming than the funghi.
Unfortunately, along with the funghi and the butane, there was a lack of cannabidiol, or CBD, which makes marijuana medical. It can help with cancer patients, people experiencing pain from various health issues, seizures, depression, or anxiety. In over 600 samples there was only .1 percent CBD. Those who traveled to Colorado just to legally give their child marijuana for health purposes may want to think twice.
So, as a consumer there may be less difference among how the various types of pot make you feel. Some people claim certain types make them feel awake and full of engery, while others may help you to ease tension and relax. And remember, the high levels of THC today may make for a stronger or longer lasting high than you had back in the day.
