How to get rid of flabby arms

You can get rid of flabby arms with targeted exercises and a regular cardio routine. Whether you have flabby arms from weight gain or extreme weight loss in a short period of time, you can use a customized routine to get rid of them. While there are surgical options, you may want to try to get rid of them through exercise first. We'll explore both options here.

Disadvantages

Bat wings, the second hello...whatever you call them underarm wings can be embarrassing and even hard to fit in clothing. They can also be extremely difficult to get rid of. There are other disadvantages to arm wings. You may experiencing an increased level of sweating in the spring and summer. Increased sweat without proper airflow can lead to chafing and rashes. This can be painful, embarrassing and leave you at a risk for infection.

Causes

Arm wings can be caused by weight gain, weight loss, genetics or aging.  As you age your skin becomes less elastic and getting the definition you want will take much longer and you likely won't see the results you're looking for. This is also true of weight gain followed by weight loss. 

Arm Exercises

The best workout to help lose arm wings is to work your triceps. You can do this a variety of ways. Find what works best for you and go with it. If you visit a gym try the cable resistance machine which enables you to pull a small bar or rope down the front of your body pushing your arms out at the bottom. If you workout at home, use weights (or other objects- milk cartons, your purse, small children) and perform tricep kickbacks or overhead extensions. 

Brachioplasty

Commonly known as an arm lift, a surgeon cuts off the wing, or flap, and closes the incision. While, this will take away the flap, it will not bring tone and definition to your arms so you will need to add strength training after recovery to accomplish this. As with any surgery, there are risks and you will experience swelling and bruising for a couple of days after. This surgery is not for those who still need to lose a large amount of weight, but is great for those who have already met their goal. 

Disadvantages of Surgery

The one major disadvantage of Brachioplasty is the long, generally crooked, scar that will run from your elbow to your armpit. Cosmetic surgery technology is always improving, but there will always be a scar of some kind when you're removing a large amount of skin and tissue. This surgery is also not recommended for those who have had a mastectomy, or breast removal, because the lymph drainage system may not be working properly. Also patients who suffer from excessive sweating may not be eligible for this surgery. Always talk extensively with your doctor before deciding to undergo any surgery.

Arm wings are mostly annoying and embarrassing and there are options for getting rid of them. Before you decide to do anything dramatic, always think about the risks involved and the potential for the problem to be worse, namely dealing with a large scar. A fitness approach is always the best first option as you may see the results you're looking for, but be patient. Work with your doctor, friends, family and even therapist to find out which is the right approach for you. Never make a surgery or other decision based on the talk or feelings of others. It's about finding your own beauty, which starts at your own comfort level and not the opinions of others.
